Association and the Concord Parks and Recreation Depart- <br />ment. The program surpassed expectations for the first year, <br />as 84 juniors came out to compete. Matches were held atFrank <br />Liske Park, Bakers Creek Park, Concord's Myers Park, and <br />the Sportscenter. <br /> <br />Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament <br /> <br /> One hundred forty-four teams in seven divisions for <br />boys and girls participated in the 14th annual Holiday Classic <br />Basketball Tournament. The tournament was co-sponsored <br />by Concord Parks and Recreation Department, the Cannon <br />Memorial YMCA, and the Cabarrus County Boys and Girls <br />Club. Games were played at ten locations throughout the <br />county. <br /> <br />Sports Clinics <br /> <br /> As a local chapter of the National Youth Sports Coaches <br />Association, 352 youth coaches were certified in soccer, <br />football, basketball, baseball and softball. This total repre- <br />sents an increase of 153 certified coaches from the previous <br />year. Coaches receive ins truction in safety and first aid, proper <br />sports techniques, and, most importantly, sportsmanship. Each <br />coach is required to sign a pledge of commitment to place the <br />needs of children first in sports. <br /> <br />19 <br /> <br /> <br />
