CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> <br />Meeting Date: December 18, 1995 <br /> <br />Agenda Item It <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Clarification of the 1996 Employee Holiday Schedule <br /> <br />REQUESTED ACTION: Currently in Article VI, Section 1 of the Cabarrus County Personnel <br />Ordinance, holidays are designated for the employees of the County. Christmas holidays are <br />designated as "two (2) workdays (The County will observe the State Christmas Schedule)". <br /> <br />In years such as 1996 when Christmas falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, the ordinance <br />contradicts itself. The state has two (2) workdays off when Christmas ties into a weekend by falling <br />on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday. They give three (3) days offwhen Christmas falls midweek, <br />on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Therefore, in 1996 when Christmas falls on Wednesday, the <br />description in the ordinance reads to take two (2) workdays off. To follow the state schedule, the <br />C6unty would have to take three (3) workdays off. <br /> <br />To clarify the 1996 holiday schedule, it is asked that the Board of Commissioners change the <br />description of Christmas holidays in Article VI, Section 1 of the Cabarrus Personnel Ordinance: <br /> <br />Christmas -- two (2) workdays (The County will observe the State Christmas <br />Schedule). <br /> <br />To' <br /> <br />Option 1: <br /> <br />Christmas -- two (2) or three (3) workdays (The County wilt observe the State <br />Christmas Schedule). <br /> <br />or <br /> <br />Option 2: <br /> <br />Christmas -- two (2) workdays <br />-when Christmas falls on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday (The County will <br />observe the State Christmas Schedule); <br />-when Christmas falls-on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (The County will <br />observe Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day). <br /> <br />Attachments XYes __No <br /> <br />Expected Length of Presentation 3 minutes <br /> <br />Has this been reviewed by the Budget Director?
