NURSING AND DOMICILIARY HOME <br />COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEES <br />(NHCAC/DHCAC) <br /> ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP <br /> <br />Must reside in the county. <br /> <br />May not have financial interest in any nursing homes or <br />have immediate family with financial interest in a <br />nursing home. <br /> <br />May not have a member of the immediate family in a <br />nursing home in the county. (Immediate family is defined <br />as mother, father, sister, brother, spouse, child, <br />grandparent or in-laws of the above.) <br /> <br />May not be employed or have immediate family employed in <br />a county nursing home or serve on a governing board of <br />a facility. <br /> <br />May not be a County Commissioner. (Commissioners may <br />only be appointed in an ex officio capacity.) <br /> <br />Should be willing to serve an initial one year term. <br /> <br />Should be available to attend quarterly business meetings <br />and to visit homes regularly. (Usually these are held <br />during the day.) <br /> <br />Should have transportation to meetings and facilities. <br /> <br />Should be interested in older adults, particularly those <br />who are frail and isolated. <br /> <br />Should be able to communicate with residents of nursing <br />homes, administrators and the general public. <br /> <br />Must be willing to attend an initial orientation session <br />and follow up training provided by the Regional Ombudsman <br />and orientation sessions in each type of facility served. <br /> <br />Should be willing to volunteer a minimum of eight hours <br />a month. <br /> <br />Special care should be taken to see that persons with the interest, <br />the time and the willingness to serve are appointed. To the extent <br />possible, committees should be composed of persons that represent <br />a wide range of backgrounds including those with interest in the <br />concerns of older adults and demonstrated involvement in the <br />community. <br /> <br /> <br />
