Richardson, facilitator
Cabarrus Cou/%ty School/Park Taskforce

steve L. Little, director
Cabarrue County Parks & Recreation Department

February 1, 1994

Taskforce recommendations

In December, each of you endorsed the Cabarrus County School/Park
Taskforce as a way to study the validity of ~_he school/park
taskforce as a way of providing much needed recreation facilities
for both school students and the community at large in Cabarrus
County.

The taskforce, made of up 31 people from the schools, local
government, business and ~he community, has successfully carried
cut this mandate.

With unanimo~s consent, the taskforce recommends that the Board
of County Co~issioner$ and the boards of education endorse the
following concepts:

The school/park concept is a valid program for c~arrus county.
It builds on existing cooperative relationships and establishes
a foundation for Joint planning, Joint aam{nistration and joint
financing of recreation facilities that will serve bot~ t~e
schools and t~e community.

Of utmost importance in ~he school/park program is the
implementation of Joint planning, Joint admini$~ation, and
joint funding by schools, the Parks & Recreation Department,
and the community.

· All school campuses, both new and existing, should be evaluated
for puten~ial school/parks. Because school campuses are
distributed throughout ~/%e county, a school/park network would
provide a network of recreation facilities in every community.
