Cabarrus Counl'y
Parks and Recreation Department'

SI:eve J.. Lil:l:lc . Direct. ur

Grounds Maintenance Assistant
Bakers Creek Park

Jus~ifica~(on

At present the Manager works maintaining the park from
8 am until 5 pm with the help of Community Service workers.
It's getting more difficult to return the many calls, make
reservations, accept payments, tackle the many necessary
errands, open the Miniature Golf for school groups, mow, and
supervise Community Service Workers. All of this is done in
a typical day at the park.
Errands include at least three trips per week to the -.
Recreation Office in Concord. Time Sheets, Bills, Deposits,
Payroll are handled there. Then there are errands for Con-
cession Supplies to Pood Lion and Modern Wholesale. Other
errands include supplies such as mower fuel, oils, and
repair and replacement parts.
The Park Ranger's Day usually starts at 4:30 pm and
ends at 11 pm. due to Ballgames and cleanup. They prepare
the field for games which usually takes one hour or more.
Then they check the playground equipment and clean any
shel. ters used. Checking of the trails is next. Then for an
hour or so they mow and supervise any community service
workers. At dusk it's back to the BalIfield to turn on the
lights for the ballplayers and ~hen collect from Tennis
Players. The shelters and picnic sites are then cleaned
again, the restrooms stocked and cleaned. The Ranger then
helps the Concession Worker close up and clean up of the
bleacher area and parking lot begins. Closing of the Green.-'
way, alarms on at the shop, office, etc. is the end of
their day.
Often times people become very upset when they have
to find the Manager to make a payment. We ask that people
mail in payments but most will not. We average being inter-
upted at least 10 to 20 times a day from ouc outside duties.
Visitation at the park continues to grow. Eot the past
two years more than 80,000 people have visited and our
personnel needs to adhere to this growth and better serve
the people.
