CABARRUS COUNTY <br /> <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />today there are more than 32,000 ailing people throughout the United States <br />hoping for a second chance at life through the donation of organs and tissue; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, North Carolina alone carries a waiting list of 900 people who desperately <br /> need lifesaving tissue and organ transplants; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />of the almost 2.2 million people who die in the United States each year, as <br />many as 25,000 could be qualified organ donors; yet fewer than 4,900 people <br />donated organs and tissue during 1993; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />each year during April, organ transplant recipients, donOr families and organ <br />procurement agencies such as Lifeshare of The Carolinas dedicate special <br />efforts to focus attention on this vital need; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />by signing and carrying a Uniform Donor Card and committing to organ and <br />tissue donation, .those who have compassion and concern for other human <br />beings may create a miracle for those in need when they themselves depart. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners in support of the national observation does hereby proclaim April 17 - 23, <br />1994, as <br /> <br />ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION AWARENESS WEEK <br /> <br />in Cabarrus County and urges all eligible citizens to consider the humanitarian aspects of <br />Uniform Donor Cards and to inform themselves of organ and tissue donations through <br />contact with Lifeshare of the Carolinas. <br /> <br />This the 18th day of April, 1994 <br /> <br />Jeffrey L.
