VI. Use of Assigned Weapons <br /> <br />a. Training <br /> <br />All Animal Control Officers will satisfactorily complete annual weapons <br />qualification training with all support weapons. Failure to qualify will result <br />in the officer not being allowed to use assigned weapon. <br /> <br />b. Uniform <br /> <br />Animal Control Officer will only use their assigned weapon while on duty and in <br />uniform. <br /> <br />c. Sidearm <br /> <br />The only sidearm that is permitted to be carried by an officer is a tranquilizer <br />sidearm. <br /> <br />d. Rifle/Shotgun <br /> <br />This weapon will be used upon the approval of the Supervisor or his designee for <br />destruction of large animals in the field, such as: large dogs, some forms of <br />wildlife, or farm animals. <br /> <br />e. Personal Firearms <br /> <br />SHALL BE PROHIBITED. <br /> <br />f. Inspections <br /> <br />The Animal Con.tml Supervisor will inspect all weapons at least monthly. <br /> <br />g. Storage <br /> <br />All department support weapons and ammunition will be stored in a <br />cabinet at the shelter. <br /> <br />h. Notification Reports <br /> <br />Any time a support weapon is drawn or fired, other than in a training <br />environment, the following will be made: <br /> <br />1. Verbal - An immediate report must be made to the Supervisor. <br /> <br />Wdtten - You must give the Animal Control supervisor a written <br />report within eight (8) hours orthe next normal work day explain- <br />ing the incident. The Animal Control Supervisor will review the re- <br />port and incident and submit wdtten recommendations to the <br />County Health Director or his/her designee within twenty-four (24) <br />hours or the next normal work day. <br /> <br />Approved by Cabarrus County Board of Health Apdl 21, 1994. <br /> <br />-3- <br /> <br /> <br />
