-4- <br /> <br />Employment (pp 17 -18): For the Winter Night Shelter responses, 14 of 139 (10%) <br />reported having current employment. One of these reported being employed <br />for as long as one year. 56 of 139 (40%) considered themselves unemployed. <br /> <br />For the All Other Agencies group, the 135 responses representing 187 adults <br />reported 53 employed adults and 96 unemployed adults. 287 of these adults were <br />thus reported as employed and 51% of these adults were reported as unemployed. <br />64 of 96 unemployed adults (67%) had been unemployed for less than one.year. <br /> <br />Monthly Income (p.22): For Winter Night Shelter responses, 113 of 139 (or 81%) <br />gave no responses or reported income of less than $100 per month. <br /> <br />For the A_ll Other Agencies responses, 112 of 135 (83%) reported monthly income <br />of below $740 per month. The average household size for this group was 2.55 and <br />the poverty level for such a household would be approximately $834 per month. <br /> <br />RESOURCES NEEDED AN~ RESOURCES AVAILABLE: <br /> <br />The charts given on pages 23 - 25 compile data from items M through P of the <br />survey. These items gathered data on services and resources needed, services <br />and resources provided, and services and resources which were not available in <br />the community. <br /> <br /> Responses from the Winter Night Shelter (p.23): Primary service needs for this <br /> group were as follows: emergency shelter, 95 (68%); substance abuse services, <br /> <br /> 34 (24%); employment and better paying employment, 33 (24%); affordable housing, <br />-- 29 (21%); and, help in finding affordable housing, 27 (19%). <br /> <br />136 of 139 (98%) were provided emergency shelter service. <br /> <br />(The Winter Night Shelter does not have referral as a major role and did not <br /> <br />have a means of assessing availability of community resources.) <br /> <br /> <br />
