-3- <br /> <br />Age of Children (p.9): For the 176 children represented by all responses, 150 <br />(or 85%) were less than or equal to 10 years old, 87 (or 49%) were less than or <br />equal to 5 years old, and 33 (or 19%) were less than or equal to one year old. <br /> <br />Current Living Situation (pp 10 - 12): For the 139 Winter Night Shelter <br /> <br />responses, 133 reported living at the Shelter. Additional responses included: <br />staying with family or friends, 29; living in a vehicle, 6; living in an <br />abandoned building, 8; and living in the streets, 14. (Respondents could give <br />multiple responses.) <br /> <br />For the 135 Ail Other Agencies responses, 60 reported they were about to be <br />evicted, 39 reported they were staying with friends, 10 reported ~iving in a <br />vehicle, 2 reported living in an abandoned building, and 11 reported living in <br />the streets. A total of 15 reported other arrangements. The most prevalent <br />response here was that they were at a motel (e.g., being provided temporary <br />shelter in motels). <br /> <br />Length of Time in Current Situation (p.13): For the Winter Night Shelter group, <br />76 responded to this item. 49 of these (64%) reported being in this situation <br />for over one month. <br /> <br />129 of the 135 Ail Other Agencies responses responded to this item. 81 (63%) <br />reported being in their current situation for less than a month and 119 (92%) <br />reported being in this situation for less than six months. <br /> <br />Perceived Causes of Problems with Housing (pp 14 - 16): For the 139 Winter <br /> <br />Night Shelter responses, the most frequent responses for the item asking what <br />they felt had caused their housing problems were as follows: no job or lost <br />job, 46 (33%); problems with drinking or drugs, 39 (28%); and family problems, <br />26 (19~). <br /> <br />For the All Other Agencies group, the leading responses for this item were: no <br />job or lost job, 57 (42%); family problems, 29 (21%); and "other", 28 (21%). <br />See the listing of "other problems" on page 15. <br /> <br /> <br />
