WORK PROGRAM <br /> FOR USE OF <br />STATE APPROPRIATION TO LROs <br />TO ASSIST LOCAL GOVERNMENTS <br />1994-95 <br /> <br />II. <br /> <br />ASSIST LOCAL GOVERNMENTS WITH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK <br />GRANT FUNDS <br /> <br />The staff will prepare CDBG applications for the Community Revitalization or <br />Economic Development category this year for member governments. The <br />applications would be prepared at no cost to member governments. <br /> <br />REGIONAL DATA CENTER <br /> <br />The Regional Data Center's charge is to provide local governments and the private <br />sector with current statistical information on various topics ranging from general <br />demographics to quality of life. During the Fiscal Year 1994-95, the Data Center <br />will continue to collect and disseminate current data from many sources, including <br />the US Bureau of the Census, North Carolina Employment Security Commission, <br />Department of Public Instruction, North Carolina State Data Center, Federal <br />Reserve System, and other various State and Federal Agencies. The data will be <br />dispersed through the use of standard publications developed by Data Center staff, <br />and through consumer-driven specialized reports. The Data Center will also <br />continue to work hand-in-hand with Centralina COG's computer mapping program <br />to provided a visual display of statistical information as well as raw data. Data and <br />maps will be available in several formats, including paper copy (various sized <br />maps), transparency, slides, and electronic. The combined efforts of the Data <br />Center and Data Processing is done through Centralina Information Services (CIS). <br /> <br />In addition to the services mentioned above, Centralina Information Services and <br />the Data Center will concentrate on key projects. They include: <br /> <br />REGIONAL ATLAS - During the past fiscat year, ClS developed a regional Atlas <br />called Our Region Tomorrow. This Atlas is a detailed overview of growth patterns <br />and trends for an eighteen-county region, including 30-35 color maps depicting <br />information on the Census Tract level. Written analysis is also provided. During <br />this Fiscal Year, CIS will continue its efforts to market the Atlas for all users, and <br />continue to monitor and update the data found in the document. <br /> <br />REGIONAL BUILDING PERMIT TRACKING SYSTEM - The Data Center will <br />continue its effort to compile information on building permit activity in a twelve- <br />county region. The data is collected monthly and is available down to the Census <br />Tract level. The Data Center will use this data for planning purposes, including <br />population projections, capital improvement needs, land development plans, etc. <br />Quarterly reports on the region's activity will also be compiled and made available <br />to both public and private sectors. <br /> <br /> <br />
