Hubbard <br /> Director <br /> <br />TO: Interested Parties <br /> <br />DATE: February 4, 1993 <br /> <br />RE: Availability of Emergency Shelter Grant Funds <br /> <br />The Division of Economic Opportunity has been notified of <br />the availability of funding under the fiscal year'1993 <br />Emergency Shelter Grants Program. The purpose of the <br />Emergency Shelter Grants Program is to help meet the costs <br />of operating emergency shelters and of providing certain <br />essential social services to homeless individuals so that <br />these persons have access not only to safe and sanitary <br />shelter, but also to the supportive services and other kinds <br />of assistance they need to improve their situations. <br /> <br />We are in the process of receiving and reviewing pre- <br />applications to determine the number of eligible agencies <br />interested in applying for funds. Grant amounts will be <br />based on the number of eligible applicants and their annual <br />average daily occupancy rate or the annual average dail~ <br />number of homeless persons provided essential services. <br /> <br />The fiscal year 1993 Emergency Shelter Grants Program is <br />governed by the Final Rule published in the Federal Register <br />on November 7, 1989 and the statutory changes made by the <br />Housing and Community Development ACt of 1992.
