H74 CLARIFY TAX lb*FORMATION DISCLOSURE <br /> <br />Manager Recommendation: Support <br /> <br />H74 <br /> <br />"To clarify the prohibition against disclosing tax informetion, to modify the prohibition to permit <br />the exchange of certain information bem'een designated agencies, and to exclude information sub- <br />mitted on a masler tax application from the prohibition." Rep. John Gamble (Lincoln). This bill, <br />referred to the House Finance Com:niuee, would make a number of changes related to the confidentiality <br />and disclosure of tax information. The bill would add provisions in county and city law to provide that <br />only local tax records containing information about a la×payer's income or receipts are confidential there- <br />by making it clear that local property tax records are public records. It would delete the penalty <br />provision that requires a local government e:nployee violaling the confidentiality prov/sSon to be dis- <br />missed from office and not hold public office or employment for 5 ),ears. <br /> <br />9. H105 INCREASE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION <br /> <br />Manager Recommendation: Support <br /> <br />H105 <br /> <br />"To increase the Property Tax Homestead Exemption amount and the income eligibility threshold <br />and to provide that social security benefits end disability benefits are not counted in determining <br />the taxpayer's eligibility for the Homestead Exemption." Sen. Ronnie Smith (Carteret). This bill <br />would raise the Homestead Exemption from $12,000 to $15,000 and raise the annual disposable income <br />level below which elderly and disabled taxpayers qualify for the exemption from $11,000 to $15,000. It <br />would define disposable income as adjusled gross income as defined in Section 62 of the Internal <br />Revenue Code plus other monies received~ but not including gifts or 5nheritances from family, benefits <br />received under Title II of the Social Security Act or disability benefits.
