PROC!,AMATION <br /> <br />CABARRUS COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br />WHEREAS, county government is one of the oldest forms of local government in the <br /> United States; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />over the last century, the responsibilities of county government have grown <br />tremendously, and today county governments employ more than 2 million <br />people and spent more than $132 billion last year to provide services <br />throughout the United States; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />counties provide a variety of services and are on the front line of addressing <br />many of the nation's most critical issues, including: environmental <br />protection, indigent health care, child welfare, solid waste disposal, and <br />public safety; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />counties serve as a major partner in the public education system, contributing <br />its share of funding to elementary-secondary schools as well as community <br />colleges; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is important that all Americans acknowledge the role of county government <br /> and its efforts to meet the needs of its citizens. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners does hereby proclaim the week of April 17 -24, 1993 as <br /> <br />County Government Week in Cabarrus County <br /> <br />and urges all citizens to be more involved in and aware of issues affecting county <br />government. <br /> <br />Adopted this the 5th day of April, 1993. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Carolyn B.
