NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT WEEK <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> April 5 - 11, 1993 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the Community Development Block Grant Program has operated since 1975 <br />to provide local governments with the resources to develop viable <br />communities by funding activities that principally benefit low- and moderate- <br />income persons; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />since 1982, Community Development Block Grant funds have been used to <br />rehabilitate over 14,000 houses, install over 293 miles of water ad sewer lines <br />and pave over 75 miles of street throughout the State of North Carolina; and <br /> <br />W~-IEREAS, in Cabarrus County, Community Development Block Grant funds have been <br /> used to assist in funding: <br /> <br />· <br />· <br />· <br />· <br />· <br /> <br />More than 20,000 feet of sanitary sewer; <br />More than 25,000 feet of water lines; <br />The rehabilitation of some 148 homes; <br />The demolition of some 16 vacant, dilapidated structures; <br />Water lines for Whitley Manufacturing, thus retaining a business of 40 <br />employees; <br />The paving of four dirt streets; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Governor James B. Hunt, Jr., has designated the week of April 5-11, 1993 to <br />pay special tribute to the contributions that the Community Development <br />Block Grant Program has made in North Carolina. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners hereby proclaims the week of April 5 - 11, 1993 as "National Community <br />Development Block Grant Week" in Cabarrus County, and urges all citizens to join us in <br />recognizing the importance of the Community Development Block Grant Program to our <br />County, State and the nation. <br /> <br />This the 5th day of April, 1993. <br /> <br />Carolyn B.
