~UI~ILINiS ,FOl Tli !llCTIOl ,0~ M,LCOME SigNS OM flgWM~¥' <br />RIOHTS-OF-WAY BY OTHERS THAN THR DIVISION O'F HIGH#A¥S <br /> <br />The Dlvision of Highways realizes in many cases a <br />municipality, community, or.county may have' a need or d~sire <br />to erect special "Welcome" or entrance signs. The Division of <br />Highways will permit the erection of. these slgns, hereinafter <br />referred to as Welcome signs, provided the following <br />'conditions are met '*- <br /> <br /> (1) Requests for Welcome signs, should be directed to the -'appropriate Division Engineer for approval. <br /> <br />'Welcome signs shall be permitted only for <br />municipalities, counties, and communities that are shown <br />on the Division of Highways' county maps. <br /> <br />(3) <br /> <br />The message to be displayed shall be "Welcome to" or <br />other appropriate message and the municipality, <br />community, or county name. A slogan associated with the <br />municipality, community, or county will be permitted. <br />The slogan may be incorporated Into the sign design or <br />may be added as a separate panel beneath existing city <br />limits signs. <br /> <br />(4) Emblems such as the municipal or county seal, logo, or <br /> flag may be displayed on Welcome signs· <br /> <br />(5) <br /> <br />Welcome signs may be constructed of aluminum or wood. <br />Wooden signs should be erected a minimum 30 feet from <br />the edge of pavement. However, the Division Engineer <br />shall have the authority to allow wooden signs to be <br />erected closer than 30 feet to the edge of pavement if <br />the signs do not pose a hazard to motorists. The <br />Division Engineer may require the use of breakaway sign <br />supports. <br /> <br />(6) <br /> <br />There shall be no restrictions on the colors used on <br />Welcome signs. However, the Division Engineer shall have <br />the authority to reject a sign which in his opinion is <br />not aesthetically pleasing or would conflict with other <br />nearby highway signs. <br /> <br />The maximum size of Welcome signs on the primary system <br />generally should be no greater than 144 inches wide and <br />48 inches high, and on the secondary system 72 inches <br />wide and 36 inches high. <br /> <br />Welcome signs should be erected at or near the <br />municipality or county limits at approved locations <br />where the city or county limit crosses the highway. A <br />Welcome sign for an unincorporated community can be <br />erected at approved locations at or ne.ar the outer <br /> <br /> <br />
