EXPANDED AUTOMATION/SIMPLIFICATION/POLICY IMPROVEMENT <br /> <br /> (INCOME MAINTENANCE DIVISION) <br /> <br />(A million plus savings for Cabarrus Collnty in throe year) <br /> <br />Introduction: - Just twelve months ago, Cabarrus County embarked on an ambitious <br />course to change the way we do business. A change that was designed not only to <br />improve our efficiency, but to save county tax dollars. Well into this project, we <br />have demonstrated that our vision was possible. Further, we now know that more <br />and more encompassing changes are possible with and without the State. <br /> <br />What Has Been Accomplished: <br /> <br /> a) Personal Printer - Printers have been ordered. This was initially seen as <br />simplification effort with a savings of $33,871 per year. It has become in our <br />plannlug an important part of other improvements that appear under new initiatives, <br />promising more savings. <br /> <br />b) All IV-D Agents have AOC capability for a savings of $1,477.44. <br /> <br /> c) The Six Prescription Limit has been resolved, not by changing State policy, <br />but by reviewing current policy and finding another way to achieve our goal. The <br />savings are $1,412 per year. <br /> <br /> d) Giving Blanket Six Weeks Disability to mothers of newborns before requiring <br />an application for unemployment benefits has, as in the ease of the six prescription <br />limit, been resolved by finding new approaches. Savings of $4,251 per year was <br />achieved. <br /> <br />e) Making all staff permanent saved Cabarrus $1,984. <br /> <br /> f) A number of procedural changes were completed, eighteen to be exact, that <br />resulted in savings of $44,587. <br /> <br /> Our overall savings to date is $87,582, and this is only a beginning. Several <br />projects have taken on new savings expectations, others are close to completion and <br />more have been added. <br /> <br />What Is SHll PendinK: <br /> <br />a) MCI will be a reality in 1994 with a savings value of $158~979 per year. <br /> <br /> b) A recent professional survey will in 1994 allow more copy access with a <br />savings of $83,473. <br /> <br /> c) Stop Issuing Surplus Food is actively being pursued for 1994 with a savings <br />of $29~568. <br /> <br /> d) Place IM Support under IM supervision is also envisioned for mid 1994 for a <br />savings of $15~000. <br /> <br /> The total savings anticipated from these pending items for 1994 is a total <br />savings of $287,020. <br /> <br /> <br />
