225 provides that the health director must review and approve <br /> the Jail health plan if he/she determines that it in fact does <br /> "protect the health of the inmates". <br /> <br /> The medical plan shall address health, mental health, mental <br /> retardation and substance abuse services for inmates in the <br /> following areas: <br /> <br />1. Health screening of inmates upon admission; <br /> <br />2. Handling routine medical care; <br /> <br />3. Handling chronic illnesses and communicable diseases; <br /> <br />4. Administration, dispensing and control of medication; <br /> <br />5. Maintenance and confidentiality of medical records; <br /> <br />6. Privacy during medical examinations and conferences with <br /> qualified medical personnel; and <br /> <br />7. Education of officers and inmates about the transmission <br /> of HIV and other communicable diseases. <br /> <br />The medical plan will prohibit inmates from performing any <br />medical function at the jail. <br /> <br />The Sheriff will ask the health director in writing to review <br />and approve the jail medical plan after it has been developed. <br /> <br />Each year the Sheriff will review the Medical Plan and submit <br />it to the Health Director for review and approval. <br /> <br />The Health Director will be requested to submit his approval <br />of the Medical Plan in writing to the Sheriff. <br /> <br />The Sheriff will request the Board of County Commissioners in <br />writing to adopt the jail medical plan once it has been <br />approved by the Health Director. <br /> <br />The medical plan will require Jail officials to inform inmates <br />about access to health care services, and the information must <br />be communicated both orally and in writing. <br /> <br />The medical plan will be available for ready reference by all <br />jail personnel. <br /> <br /> <br />
