ICABARR $COUN I

MEMORANDUM

TO:

FROM

BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

AUBREY ATTKISSO~

DIRECTOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

DATE: APRIL 21, 1992

SUBJECT: COMPLETION - AMBULANCE STATION 2

On April 10, 1992, Cabarrus County Emergency Medical
Services began operations at the new facility located at 380
N. C. Highway 49 South, across from Central Cabarrus High
School. This station is one of the best and most functional
in the State of North Carolina.

The process for this project began November 14, 1991,
when the Board approved the contract for building a new
ambulance station for $88,255.00. Approximately four weeks
later, the garage area for the station was approved along
with monies for City and County Building Permits, grading of
the lot, water and sewer tap fees, landscaping and
furnishings for the station. Total monies appropriated by
the Board for this project came to $166,673.25. To date all
invoices have been submitted for payment totaling
$164,651.57.

With the economy in a slump and all spending very tight,
we tried to be very conservative with the money approved. I
personally feel the quality of construction and the overall
appearance of the ambulance station (inside and out) is
excellent. The citizens of Cabarrus County can be proud of
the fact that tax dollars were spent effectively.

Almost two years ago, when we initially started
designing the ambulance station, preliminary bids came in at
one half million dollars. After scaling down plans to
reflect the same square footage as we have at the new
station, we were still looking at over one quarter million
dollars. As you can see, by doing the work with a general
contractor and by my overseeing the construction, we saved
the citizens of Cabarrus County a considerable amount of
money.

Emergency Medical Services

31 Willowbrook Drive - Concord, NC 28027 ,, (704) 786-9193
