PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />senior centers act as a catalyst for mobilizing the creativity, energy, vitality, <br />and commitment of older Americans to help themselves and others in their <br />communities; and <br /> <br />through their wide array of services, programs, and activities, senior centers <br />empower older Americans to contribute to their own health and the well- <br />being of their fellow citizens of all ages; <br /> <br />senior centers foster a philosophy of independence, self~reliance, and the <br />community spirit, thereby representing another expression of American <br />ingenuity, determination, self-help, and neighborliness; and <br /> <br />the month of May has historically been proclaimed as Older Americans <br />Month, and communities across the country are giving special recognition <br />to older persons and the role of Senior Centers in serving them. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carolyn B. Carpenter, Chairman of the Cabarrus County <br />Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim the week of May 17 - 23, 1992 as <br /> <br />SENIOR CENTER WEEK <br /> <br />and call upon the citizens of Cabarrus County to recognize the special contributions of <br />our senior centers and their participants, and the special efforts of senior center staff and <br />volunteers who work every day to enhance the well-being of older persons throughout <br />the county. <br /> <br />Adopted this the 4th day of May, 1992. <br /> <br />Carolyn B.
