(b) Explosive mixture~. Any liquids, solids or gases which by
reason of their nature or quantity are or may be sufficient
either alone or by interaction with other substances to cause
fire or explosion or be injurious in any other way to the
wastewater treatment system or to the operation of the system.
Included in this prohibition are wastestreams with a closed
cup flashpoint of less than one hundred forty (140) degrees
Fahrenheit (sixty (60) degrees Celsius). At no time shall two
(2) successive readings on an explosion hazard meter, at the
point of discharge into the system (or at any point in the
system) be more than five (5) percent nor any single reading
over ten (t0) percent of the lower explosive limit (LEL) of
the meter.

(c) ~o×ious materials. Noxious or malodorous solids, liquids
or gases, or other wastewater which either singly or by
interaction with other wastes are capable of creating a public
nuisance or hazard to life or are or may be sufficient to
prevent entry into a sewer for its maintenance and repair.

(d) ImDropertv shredded garbage. Garbage that has not been
ground or comminuted to such a degree that all particles will
be carried freely in suspension under flow conditions normally
prevailing in the public sewers, with no particle greater than

(e) Radioactive wastes. Any wastewater containing any
radioactive wastes or isotopes except as specifically approved
by the Authority in compliance with applicable State and
Feder~! regul~t~.ons.

(f) Solid or viscous substances. Solid or visdous substances
in amounts which will cause interference with the flow in a
sewer or otherwise interfere with the proper operation of the
wastewater treatment system but in no case solids greater than
one half inch (1.27 centimeters) in any dimension.

(g) Excessive discharge rate and/or concentration. Any
wastewater containing pollutants in sufficient quantity, (flow
or concentration) either singly or by interaction with other
pollutants, to pass through or interfere with the wastewater
treatment system, any wastewater treatment or sludge process,
constitute a hazard to humans or animals, violate pretreatment
standards in 40 CFR 403, or cause the wastewater treatment
plant to violate its NPDES permit or applicable receiving
water standards.

(h) ~oxic substances. Any wastewater causing the wastewater
treatment plant effluent to violate State Water Quality
Standards for toxic substances as described in 15A NCAC 2B
.0200.

15
