I~RalN~ HO~ COMITY ~VlSOR¥ <br /> DONICILIARY HOHE CO~ITY ~VISORY CO~ITTBB <br /> AP~I~8 ~ ACTIVITIES <br /> <br /> VOL~EER ~OB <br /> <br /> The NUrSing Home co,unitY Advisory Co~ittee (~CAC) and the Domiciliary <br /> Home Co'unity Advisory co~ittee (DHCAC) se~e the residents of long te~ <br /> care 'facilities within the county. The co~ittees have legislative authority <br /> to monitor the Residents' Bill of Rights, promote co,unity involvement in <br /> the homes, provide public education on long te~ care issues, and assist <br /> resident~ in grievance resolution. (G.S. 131 D-31, G.S. 131 E-128) <br /> <br />NHcAc me~ers are re~ired to visit all nursing homes once a ~arter as a <br />co~ittee and are to visit individually as often as possible. DHCAC me~ers <br />are to visit Homes for the Aged ~arterly, Family Care Home annually, and <br />Homes for DevelOpmentally Disabled Adults annually as a co~ittee with <br />individual visits being carried out as often as possible. Business meetings <br />are held on a ~arterly basis, orientation and training will be provided by <br />the North Carolina Division of Aging through the Regional O~udsman Program. <br />Committee a~tivities will involv~ at lest eight tours a month. <br /> <br />As part of their initial training, co~ittee me~ers are re~ired to make <br />orientation visit is to each type of facility they se~e and to attend an <br />orientation session conducted by the Regional 0~udsman. <br /> <br />Me, ers of these co~ittees must reside within the county ~at the co~ittee <br />se~es. They should be willing to attend training sessions and be able to <br />effectively co~unicate with the residents and facility staff. All co~ittee <br />me~ers are appointed by the County Co~issioners. One-third are to be <br />nominated by facility a~inistrators. All appointee~ shall se~e an initial <br />one year te~ and then may be reappointed to a subse~ent te~ of two or <br />three years for DHCAC and three years for ~CAC's. <br /> <br />The legislation re~ires that "no person or i~ediate family me, er of a <br />person with a financial interest in a home se~ed by the co~ittee, or <br />employee or governing board me~er of a home se~ed by the co~ittee, or <br />i~ediate family me,er of a resident in a home Se~ed by the co~ittee may <br />be a me~er of that co~ittee". I~ediate family is defined as mother, <br />father, sister, brother, child, gran~other and grandfather as well as in <br />laws. <br /> <br />Volunteers se~in~ on these co~ittee~ are the link b~tween the facilitie~ <br />and the c0~unity. Their work will ultimately result in improving the <br />~ality of life for home residents. They have the opportunity to meet a wide <br />variety of people as they car~ out co~ittee responsibilities.
