April 25, 1991 <br /> <br /> To: ~ichael Ruffin, County ~anager <br /> <br /> Randy Daniels, Frank Liske Park Super~lsor <br /> Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department <br /> <br /> Re: ~elcome Home <br /> Operation <br /> <br />On September 22, 1990 the National Guard's 1454th Transportation Company based <br />in Cabarrus County was called to active service as part of Operatinn Desert <br />Shield that later became Operation Desert $tor~. January 22, 1991 the 1/485 <br />Regiment Ar~y Reserve unit, also based in Cabarrus County vas called to active <br />service. As a result of these units being activated there were many Cabar~us <br />County families that were without husbands~ ~ives, fathers~ mothers, family <br />members, and friends, These were very hard times fur these families. The <br />citizens of Cabarrus County ahowed their support for our troops and families <br />~ith yelle~ ribbons, flags, support groups, a troop support rally and Operation <br />Desert Pride. <br /> <br />There were however, some sad times ~uring this co. flint when Cabarrns County <br />lost four of its service people. Kenneth Jerome Jackson and Bobby L. <br />yore killed in Saudia Arabia, Billy Ray Holden and Eelvin O, Claspy died <br />serving at Fort Jackson. Hany friends and relatives have felt this tremendous <br />loss of a family member and friend. <br /> <br />The l&54th was one of the first units to cross into Iraq when the 8round var <br />began, ~e should all be very proud of all of our military service people <br />that served during this conflict as well as our veterans of previous ~ars. <br />They are our family, frtends~ neighbors, and co-workers, <br /> <br />On lta~ch 30, 1991 the 1/185 Regiment returned hame from Fort Jackson to anxious <br />and proud family and friends. <br /> <br />It is a~ticipated that the li~4th Transportation viii arrive at Fort Bragg <br />NC on April 24, 1991. They are expected to be home on or around Nay 1~ 1991. <br />Thi~ ~ill be a ti~e of great Joy and happiness for the family and friends <br />of these service people and should be shared by all of Cabarrus County. <br /> <br /> 755 Cab~ A~ue W~I * P.O. ~o~ 707 · C~ord.
