TO: Bill Hamby, Interim County Manager <br /> <br /> FROM: Herb Smith, Chairman <br /> Human Service Planning Committee <br /> <br /> SUBJECT: Committee Report and Request for Consultant Services <br /> <br /> I am writing tn request time on the agenda for the July 1, 1991 Board of County <br />Commissioners meeting. I would like st that time to present a report on the progress <br />of the Human Service Planning Committee as directed by the Board and to request the <br />approval of the Board for the County to engage consultants to assist the Committee in <br />completing its assignment. <br /> <br />Report Summary: <br /> <br /> On February 4, 1991 the Board of Commissioners established a Human Service <br />Planning Committee and charged it with three primary tasks: <br /> <br /> 1. Reviewing operations of publicly supported human service agencies, making <br /> reco~mmendations on future capital needs, and exploring the feasibility of <br /> locating human service providers in a user friendly human service complex. <br /> <br /> 2. Making recommendations to the Board on future County funding for human <br /> services encompassing a study of what human services should be started or <br /> increased in the schools and an examination of services which would be <br /> preventive in nature. <br /> <br /> 3. Making recommendations to the Board for a mechanism to do ongoing planning <br /> for human services in the County. <br /> <br /> The Committee was to make a report by June 30, 1991. The Board made <br />appointments on March 4, 1991. (A copy of the Board's directive including a list of <br />Committee members is included as Attachment I.) <br /> <br /> Beginning with its initial meeting on April 8, the Co~ittee has met six times. <br />All of the Committee members appointed by the Board have attended the Committee's <br />meetings and worked diligently on the Committee's assignment. The directors of four <br />county human service agencies, Social Services, Health, Mental Health and Aging have <br />provided coordination support :o the Committee. <br /> <br /> The Committee has undertaken the following tasks: <br /> <br /> 1. Met with the County Manager to discuss and clarify the charge given to the <br /> Committee by the Board. <br /> <br /> 2. Organized itself electing a chair~an, setting a meeting schedule, and <br /> providing for minutes. <br /> <br /> 3. Identified and prioritized data gathering :asks and activities vhich could <br /> be used in fulfilling the Committee's assignment. <br /> ! <br /> <br /> <br />
