September 30, 1991 iHllfillllit C~:'
I

Billy J. Simmons, Chairman
I Cabarr~s County Board of Co~missioners
P. O. Box 707
Concord, North Carolina 28026-0707

Dear

Meeting in official session on AuBust 22, 1991, the Caharrus County Board
i of Health voted unanimously to recommend to the Board of Commissioners that
the practicing veterinarians in Cabarrus County be given the rabies vaccine
at county expense. The Board reached this decision in light of the
I expanding rabies problem in North Carolina and in consideration of the need
for voluntary cooperation from the veterinarians in Cabarrus Coun£y should
a rabies outbreak occur in this county. The cost of immunizing all of the
couaty's veterinarians and their staffs is $4,860.00. This item is not
I budgeted for FY 91-92.

In return for being provided the rabies vaccine, the veterinarians have
I agreed to bold at least four (4) additional clinics for the public during
this year. The cost to the public is $6.00 per vaccination.

IGiven all these considerations, the Board of Health hopes that the
commissioners will act favorably upon this request. If you have any
questions or concerns please call ~e or Dr. Robert Parrish, the veterinar-
ian representative to the Board of Health.
I Sincerely,

John V.
