MR. L. J. WARD
Page two

As a group, we accept the concept of connecting the N.C. 136
Extension to U.S. 601 Business at Old Airport Road rather than
extending all the way to N.C. 49. Briefly, however, we also want
to remind you of the remaining current and future need for a true
eastern bypass, as proposed by local leaders 20 years ago and as
now depicted on %he KANLACON Thoroughfare Plan. From the ~ew
interchange to ba constructed on 1-85 at Earnhardt Road, this
bypass, or Coldwater Creek Parkway as it has been called, needs to
extend southward directly to N.C. 49, particularly with plans to
widen N.C. 49 to a four lane, divided median highway.

I ampleased to submit these comments and urge you to give serious
consideration to the true three-fold nature of the N.C., 136
Extension project. The related widening and intersection ~mprove-
ments which I have described are needed just as badly as the
extension. I look forward to the finalization of plans for the
project and the beginning of construction. When it iscomPleted,
I feel confident that even those who now object to the project
will find it a valuable Part of our transportation system in
Concord.

Sincerely,

Bernie A.
