Alice H. Hedt, Regional Long Term Care Ombudsman
Lottie M. Massey, Regional Long Term Care Assistant
Ombudsman

December 21, 19S9

RE: Annual Reports, Nursing and Domiciliary Home Community
Advisory Committees (Please share with the County
Commissioners and appropriate DSS staff.)

Attached is the annual report of the Nursing and Domiciliary Home
Community Advisory Committee (N/DHCAC) serving your county. These
committees are the foundation of the Regional Ombudsman Program in
that they have legislative authority to monitor residents' rights,
promote community, involvement in facilities, provide public
education and resolve grievances.

During the last reporting year, the 125 citizen advocates in
Centralina's eight county region volunteered approximately 10,500
hours of time. The Committees and Ombudsmen handled 705 grievances
from 327 different individuals. Approximately 85% of the
grievances involved nursing homes and 40% related to resident care.
Nursing homes and homes for the aged (~est homes) were visited
quarterly and family care homes and homes for developmentally
disabled adults were visited a~nually.

In addition, the Ombudsmen Program provided 2,110 units of
technical assistance to the public, trained and supported committee
members, trained facility staff on resident's rights and addressed
issues such as the shortage of nursing home beds.

Please feel free to contact us or the committee chairpersons for
additional information.

AHH/CW
Attachment
A770.BE

C^BARRU~COUNTY c~n~ord han*lsbu~ kannapolls mount pleas, an! :GASTON COUNTY belmont bessemer ctty chen~'i[le cramerton dallas
gastonla h~ghshoa,s .Io~ell mcedenviile mount holly ranlo sPenc~r.rhountaln stanley IREDELLCOUNTY bem~ony mooresville statesviile
troutman LINCOLN COUNTY lincolnton MECKLEN~IURGCOUNTY charlotte .cornelius davldson h~nlersvi[le matthews plnevilie
ROWAN COUNTY chfnagrove cleveland greni(e quarry land~s rockwell salisbury spencer' STANL¥COUNTY albemarle locust
new london norwood oakboro richfield stanfield UNION COUNTY Indfantmil mamhville monro~ stallrngs waxhaw weddrnglon wlngate
