CO~{MISSION RELEASES ~AP, <br />Page Two <br /> <br /> The Commission is presenting its first statewide <br />exclusionary map in conjunction with public hearings being <br />held January 3 - January 10 in Rocky Mount, Hamlet/ Rock- <br />ingham, Wins'ton-Salem and Dallas. The public hearings are <br />being held to invite public comment on the Commission's <br />second set of site selection criteria. <br /> <br /> The CoMmission is developing a third set of site <br />selection c~i%eria and will hold additional public hearings <br />for public comment on those, The Commission expects to <br />issue two additional statewide maps prior to designating <br />suitable areas in which to locate the facility. <br /> <br /> The Commission is charged by the General Assembly with <br />locating a suitable site for a hazardous was~e facility for <br />the state. According to a Regional Agreement approved by <br />the Legislature on December 7, 1989, the state must <br />designate suitable sites for a facility by May, 1990. <br /> <br /> <br />
