Page Two
January 22, 1990

Along with this full load of near-term work, the Authority must
also continue to conduct its ongoing operations and prepare for future
work as well. Sandwiched among the siting activities, the Authority
has scheduled a regular business meeting for Monday, January 29, for
which a meeting notice and agenda have already been sent out. Be
assured that the Chem-Nuclear report will not be presented at the
January meeting, nor will any siting decislo~s be made.

The Authority will consider a full body of information and a
wealth of public input before making its decision. Through this
comprehensive process, the Authority will be prepared to make an
informed selection of sites for characterization, and we are willing to
adcept the delays which often accompany such a careful approach.
Everyone benefits from taking the extra time to do a thorough job; and
the added distress of the delay cannot compare to the consequences of a
decision made in haste and in error.

Your patience and understanding in this matter are greatly
appreciated by the Authority, /ts staff and its contractors. If you
have any questions about our upcoming activities, please call on me.

Sincerely,

Paul R.
