Pleasant has <br /> paid the total cost of three police deputies and Cabarrus <br /> County has paid the total cost of one policeman that was <br /> assigned to Mt. Pleasant. <br /> <br /> A copy of the agreement between sheriff Robert Canaday <br /> and the Town of Mt. Pleasant is attached to this letter. <br /> <br /> The cost of three men has gradually gone up over the <br />years and as of last year the police budget represented <br />approximately 90% of our total tax for the city. <br /> (1) tax collected this year $125,286.03 <br /> (2) Police Budget this year $98,625.00 <br /> <br /> At the last Town Board meeting March 5, 1990 the <br />Board voted to ask Sheriff Canaday not to replace Francis <br />Martin who was retiring, and to continue to Budget in <br />1990-1991 the funding of two policemen and to request from <br />the County Commissioners another man so that there would <br />be two county Policemen (part time- 80% in Mt. Pleasant <br />and 20% patrolling Eastern Cabarrus County) and two full <br />time policemen funded by the Town of Mt. Pleasant. <br /> <br /> For all of these years the 3 Mt. 'Pleasant Policmen <br />have been under the control of the county Sheriff and <br />they are used for all Life Threatening situations that <br />occur in the Mt.
