· 'Prov{~Ic a mini-session for classroom teachers on thc PSAT/SAT. Include a description <br /> of/he tests, how the tests are Scored, what the tests measure, strategies for taking the <br /> tests, how to prepare students for the test, etc. Teachers share the gained insight and <br /> Presentation skills with students. Regional sessions for mathematic teachers of grades <br /> seven, eight, and nine are scheduled; therefore, our teachers should attend. <br /> <br /> Each school develop a series of academic contests that directly re/ate to those areas <br /> tested on the PSAT/SAT. (Some exam /es ' ' <br /> of the day for the entiro ,:~,a ..... P might include: word of the wee <br /> ...... ,.,,L ooay, contests for those students wh6 achievke°ar word <br /> prescribed level of COmpetency with the vocabulary, Vocabulary Bees, Odyssey of the <br /> Mind, Knowledge Master, a computer competition, etc.) <br /> <br /> Have parent information sessions as a part Of ninth grade orientation. Those parents who <br /> have students whom they believe are four-year college bound could attend a special <br /> session at the conclusion of orientation. Along with a handout similar to this one, give <br /> parents strategies for assisting iheir child in improving overall achievement as well as <br /> PSAT/SAT scores. Use this time to address <br /> vocabulary enrichment, Course selections, additional reading, <br /> the school's SAT Improvement Plan and answer questions <br /> regarding curriculum issues· <br /> <br /> Study tile current curriculum plan in all subject areas beginning with English. In addition <br /> to following the Standard Course of Study, include those s~rategies required to do well <br /> on the PSAT/SAT j ~ lesson plans. Teacher-made tests are to reflect the level of critical <br /> thinking measured by the PSAT/SAT. <br /> <br /> The SAT Review Cc~urse has received positive evaluations from students. The course <br /> will be provided at each high sChool. A minimum registration fee.will be charged. <br /> Schedule the classes to meet no more than twice per week to give students better <br /> opportunity to retain the skills being taught. If possible, one night per week is deemed <br /> the best possible scheduling. <br /> <br />Expanded Strategies <br />Expanded strategies are those that will req uire proactive planning on the part of the entire school system. <br />Thec°mmittee ~refers the term "expanded,, instead of,,long_ran~,e,, beca ...... <br />now but also to corttinue o u:,~ O/me need not only to begin <br /> to expand this program for SAT/PSAT improvement as well as for total curriculum <br />improvement.
