Age 65 or older was <br /> chosen as the definition'of older adult because it is a common denominator for <br /> most resources available to the elderly population. <br /> <br /> The state requested that each county report public expenditures for services <br /> to older adults beyond data sontained in the county aging profile. Since only <br /> two copies of this document were provided, a special review committee <br /> extrapolated reported dollars from the returned surveys when comparing data to <br /> the County Aging Profile. This data demonstrates the significant <br /> contributions of the local, public and private sectors. (See attachment 6). <br /> <br /> COUNTY SERVICE PRIORITIES SURVEY <br /> <br /> The task force appointed a special committee to study reports submitted by <br /> each of the aging issue subcommittees. The subcommittee recommended the <br /> following Cabarrus County service priorities: <br /> <br /> 1. There exists an increased need for financial staff resources for <br /> in-home services, such as chore and respite as alternatives to <br /> institutional care. <br /> <br /> 2. There exists a need for additional housing to meet the diverse <br /> needs of Cabarrus County elderly; particularly addressing the <br /> continuums of income and functional abilities. <br /> <br /> 3. There exists a need for adequate transportation to serve, both rural <br /> and urban elderly populations. <br /> <br /> The aging task force reviewed the priorities submitted by the subcommittee <br /> and was unanimously approved. It Ss important to note at this juncture at <br /> that these issues received much discussion during the brainstorming session at <br /> the Region F Conference at UNCC. "Better Transportation" was the identified <br /> number one priority, receiving the greatest number of delegate votes. It is <br /> also worthy to note that attendees of the 1989 Region F Conference on Aging <br /> prioritized affordable housing and transportation services as the top two <br /> priorities. Additionally transportation issues were thoroughly studied by the <br /> <br /> <br />
