The Aging
Task Force agreed that transportation services touch many facets of service
delivery and therefore listed this as one of our top three priorities.

ISSUE IDENTIFICATION SURVEY

The state requested that each county assess important issues relating to "the
development, implementation, or use of services for older adults which should
be addressed in the State Plan for Serving Older Adults". (See attachment 7).

The Aging Task Force identified the following issues and recommends action
from the state:

1) There is a need for state wide role clarification with aging
issues, i.e. what systems are responsib~.e for specific services?
Who has the lead in planning?

2) There appears to be concerns regarding training requirements. Are
we requiring too much training for certain programs (chore,
respite, transportation)?

3) There appears to be lack of "uniform language" when discussing
programs. Varies significantly from state to state.

4) The zeitgist is appropriate for a uniform definition of elderly
i.e. age 60 and over? Age 65 and over?

5) Increased funding for in home services.

6) A funding for home repairs.
(No money is currently available for home repairs in Cabarrus).

7) Increased networking of human service agencies at the local level.
·
8). Increased funding for wellness programs such as comprehensive
health screenings, senior games and exercise programs.

9) More education available to middle adults to better prepare them
for retirement.

10) Increased funding for A~ult Day Care facilities. Many in need of
the service are not eligible for government assistance yet cannot
afford to pay privately.

11) Funding to assist patients who are bed-ridden with special
transportation needs.
