WORLD HUNGER A~,VARENrE$S ~VEEK <br /> <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />SWIERF_AS~ 12 to 24 percent of the world's population goes to bed hungry on any given <br /> day of the year; and <br /> <br />~WIEREAS, one out of eight people in the world never has enough food for good <br /> health; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS~ more than a quarter of all the world's deaths occur among children under <br /> five, and many of these die from malnutrition; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, food is a necessity for every human being and not a luxury for a few, thus <br /> making World Hunger everyone's problem; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the way to defeat World Hunger is by educating and motivating those who <br /> can help; and <br /> <br />Vtq-IEREAS, each year throughout our nation CROP/Walks are held so that Church <br /> World Service can fight the battle of World Hunger; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the local CROP/Walk Coran~ttee will challenge 1000 people in Cabarrus <br /> County to walk on October 14 to raise money for the hungry; and <br /> <br />~q~IEREAS, 25 percent of all money raised will be used to fight hunger in Caban-us <br /> County through Cabarrus Cooperative Christian Ministry, while 75 percent <br /> xvill be used to fight hunger throughout the world. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE~ I, James W. Lent~ Chairman of the Cabarrus County Board <br />of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim the week of October 7 - 14, 1990 as WORLD <br />HUNGER AWARENESS WEEK in Cabarrus County. <br /> <br /> This the 4th day of September, 1990. <br /> <br /> <br />
