C:ARLI~¥ CAPI,'TAI_ GROUP
October 30, 1985

Mr. Thomas B. Robinson
Planning Director
Cabarrus County.
P. O. Box 707
Concord, N. C. 28925

Dear Mr. Robinson:

I have your letter of October 10th inviting me to comment on Cabarrus
county's proposed general aviation airport in the 1-85 corridor. As
you know, I have long been an advocate 6f quality economic develop-
ment in the 1-85 corridor. I believe this corrldor offers Cabarrus
County the best option for developing a strongtax and employment '
base. With continued good leadership in the community and good plan-
ning, I feel that this development will occur.
f think the development of a gene~ai'~iation airport is an ~xcellent.
idea and properly located would support the corridor growth. ~owever,
me_.~eserva~o~s_~_about one of the potential sites: the Poplar
ear future, support a high quality industrial park or quality mixed
se development. '

i tech and other image conscious firms might well be attracted to
such a site. An airport at that intersection would, cf course, pre-
empt these potential users and may also discourage the more image
conscious users from locating in the immediate surrounding spaces.

I would encourage you and your staff to consider alternative sites for
the airport location and preserve the 1-85{Poplar Tent site fo= a high
qual~y industrial park. The airport needs good access, but does n6t
require the prime interchange location and interstate visibility.

Thank you for inviting me to comment on this important issue.

Very truly yours,

'CARLEY CAPITAL ~ROUP

JWC:ms
