RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, North Carolina has the third largest community college system <br /> in the country with the reputation for being a model for training the state's <br /> work force; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, North Carolina's 58 community colleges enroll one of every six <br />adults in North Carolina, offer over 280 separate certificate or degree <br />programs, and provide literacy, small business, and new industry training <br />at thousands of sites throughout the state; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the system is often referred to as "North Carolina's best <br />educational bargain," receiving onl~ seven percent of every dollar the state <br />spends on education; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, North Carolina's Co~nunity College System has been responsible <br />for much of the extraordinary economic progress the state has made during <br />the last quarter century; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, community colleges have made the difference in millions of lives, <br />opening doors of opportunity throughout the state; and <br /> <br /> IN RECOGNITION OF THE FACT THAT, our community college system has urgent <br />needs for increased funding and other support to strengthen and enhance <br />colleges especially in the areas of faculty salaries, planning, coordination <br />with public schools and four-year universities, improved training for business <br />and industry, and increased reading, writing, computing and communication <br />skills for all adult North Carolinians; <br /> <br /> <br />
