State capitol, fiv~ o_f North Carolina's governors -- Governor-Jim Martin <br /> anti the four living- forme~, go~ernqrs, Terry Sanford, Bob' Scott, Jim <br /> HOlshous~, and Jim ~unt ' joined forces to announce the formation of <br /> North Carolinians f6r Community Colleges. - . <br /> <br /> ' ' The new gropp'S name says it all. -- It' is an' informl' <br /> -. organization ~rking Statewide'on behalf of one of this state's key <br /> educational and economic' forces: - our system o~ 58 community.colleges. <br /> . Specifically, North Carolinians for Community Colleges is building <br /> support across the state for the Re~rt of the Commission on the Future <br /> of the North Carolina Community College System. <br /> <br /> The essence ~f that report is this: Unles~ North Carolina' makes <br /> a renewed co~mlitment to its community colleggs, our' state, its citizens, <br /> and their quality of life will suffer greatly: Once the model for the <br /> rest of the nation, our con~minity colleges greatly need increased ftmdlng <br /> and other support to do the job that lies ahead. <br /> <br /> We need your help. Please take the time to review the enclosed <br /> materials, including the Commission's report, "Gaining .the Competitive <br /> Edge," and talk with the other members of the CabarrUs County Con~ni.ssion <br /> about the importance of community colleges to your county. What we need <br /> n=w, so that we can demenstrate to the General Assembly, is an <br />~ endorser~nt by the Cabatrus .County Commission.
