FINAL REPORT ON JAIL FOOD SERVICE FY 1990 <br /> <br /> The Cabarrus County Jail Food Service has been in o~era- <br /> tion since September 12, 1989. During the time between September <br /> 12, 1989 and June 30, 1990 the Food Service has o~erated 7 days a <br /> week including during Hurricane Hugo. <br /> <br /> During the 42 weeks of operation the Food Service has <br /> served the following numbers of meals: <br /> <br /> Breakfast 22,254 <br /> Lunch 22,530 <br /> Dinner 22,035 <br /> <br /> The total dollars spent on food cost during the 42 weeks <br /> is $56,242.22 and the labor cost for the operation of the Food <br /> Service has been $69,237.00. <br /> <br /> The total cost of labor and food for the 42 weeks is <br /> $125,478.22. <br /> <br /> The cost of providing the meals if the County had t~ken <br />the bid offered by the only food contract bidder last year would <br />have been aa follows: <br /> <br /> Breakfast 22,254 X ,1.29 = $28,707.66 <br /> Lunch 22,530 X S2.50 = $56,325.00 <br /> Dinner 22,03S X $2.50 = $55~087.50 <br /> <br /> Total Contract food cost for period = $140,120.16 <br /> <br /> A savings to Cabarrue County has resulted from the utili- <br />zation of the Food Service instead of the Contract food service. <br />This amount of savings is as follows: <br /> Coat of the contract food service $140,120.16 <br /> Coat of the same number of meals prepared using Jail Food <br />Service $125,47g.22 <br /> <br /> Total Savings to County $ 14,640.94 <br /> <br /> This represents a saving to Cabarrus County of $14,640.94 for <br />the 42 week period that the food service has been in operation. <br /> <br /> The average da~ly food cost to feed an inmate three meals <br />at this time is approximately $2.53. <br /> As the number of inmates housed increases the labor cost <br />to prepare the meals will re~ain fairly COnStant and greater <br />savings to the county will result. At this t~mewe are currently <br />feeding an average of 75.76 inmates three meals per day. The <br /> <br /> <br />
