and make reco~endations for construction of the earthen dam as part of
the basin. E~GINEERwill m~et with the geotechnical engineer and OWNER
during initial investigation to review existing conditions at the
proposed location of the basin.

Up to three test borings will be performed along the proposed
centerline of the earthen dam to develop a foundation analysis. Two
test borings up to twenty feet in depth will be conducted in a
potential barrow area and the soils analyzed in o~der to develop
construction requirements and testing parameters for the earthen dam.
In addition, two borings will be extended to auger refusal or twenty
feet, whichever occurs first, in the proposed basin area to determine
possible excavation depths.

The results of the investigation, and recommendations for design and
construction will be summarized in a report by the geotechnical
engineer.

Task 2.0 - Sedimentation Basin Design

ENGINEER will prepare hydraulic calculations using Soil Conservation
Service methods and the North Carolina ,'Erosion and Sediment Control
Planning and Design Manual" to determine the required size of the
sediment basin, the height of the earthen dam, pipe sizes, and final
slope requirements. The calculations will be based on features shown
on the existing topographic map, and the permitted final contours of
the landfill.

Task 3.0 - Preparation of Technical Specifications and Drawings

ENGINEER will prepare technical specifications and drawings for
construction of the sedimentation basin for incorporation into bid
documents to be prepared by OWNER. The specifications will include
recommended soil materials, test parameters, a bid form, method of
payment, and construction techniques (developed from Task 1.0), as well
as plan sheet(s), cross section(s) and details sufficient to construct

2of5
