The county has the discretion to determine which representative will serve the one-year term and which will serve the two-year term." Please forward to me Four appointees by October 30 and denote which terms they are to be appointed. Because the first years of the Compact's work will lay the groundwork for the future, please look to appointing individuals who have a strong interest and knowledge of transportation issues. 3. If your County/Council approve the Compact, we~will need yourfinancial commitment by the end of the year. The Compact will invoice your County when it receives the resolution. C. After learning each Board's decision, we will formalize the compact at the November 15, 1989 meeting and begin to move forward on this effort. Each of you should be commended for the foresight and impetus to create a vehicle to address the needs of our future! The Transportation Task Force met with Congressmen and Senators representing this region to brief them on the Compact. The reception by the federal officials has been excellent and they haue indicated their desire to assist in obtaining federal funding if available. II. Next Meeting, November 15, 1989 A. As David Ward, Gaston County, offered at the meeting, the next meeting of the Coalition will be held on November 15 in Gaston County. David will be forwarding each of you details of the meeting. B. In addition to finaliz%ng the Compact ~t this meeting, we will be discussing the formalization.of the Carolinas Counties Coalition. I will assign myself the task of researching other similar organizations, including Western North Carolina Tomorrow, and will present a range of concepts for your consideration. If you have any ideas on how you feel the Coalition should be structured, please forward them to Betty Turner, Mecklenburg County Commissioners, P.O. Box 31787, Charlotte, NC 28231 and she will compile them prior to the meeting.
