CURRENT ORDINANCE <br /> <br /> ARTICLE III. THE PAY PLAN <br /> Section 3.' Use of Salary Ranges <br /> <br /> (b) New hires will receive a one-step automatic pay increase on the anniversary of <br /> their time in grade and class, up through step 4. During their employment, new <br /> hires will be ellgible for three one-step automatic pay increases or the number of <br /> one-step automatic pay increases necessary to move to step 4, whichever is less. <br /> Once a new hire reaches step 4, he/she will no longer be eligible for automatic <br /> pay. increases, regardless of future reclassifications or promotions. However, if a <br /> new hire is promoted or reclassified to a different position and the employee falls <br /> into step 1, 2, or 3 of the new salary grade and if the employee had not either <br /> reached step 4 of a previous salary grade or had not received 3 one-step automatic <br /> pay increases during employment with the County, the employee is eligible for a <br /> one-step automatic pay increase on the anniversary of his/her time in grade and <br /> class. <br /> <br /> (c) Employees who are promoted or reclassified to a different position are not eligible <br /> for one-step automatic pay increases, except under the conditions set forth in <br /> Article III, Section 3(b); however, such employees will be eligible for merit <br /> increases. <br /> <br /> (d) All other steps are reserved to reward employees for meritorious service. Each <br /> year, the county manager may require department heads to consider the eligibility <br /> of employees to receive increments and to recommend such advancement or <br /> retention at the same rate. Department heads shall consider all factors affecting <br /> employee performance and shall submit their recommendations in writing, giving <br /> the reasons whether to advance or retain the employee at the same rate.
