Th~ Division
~nvironmental Management (DEPI) has concern about potential water

On Coddle Creek in Cabarrus County.

Currently, Concord ha~ 3 ~a'ter supply sources b~hich include
Lake Concord and Lake Fisher on Cold Water Creek and a intake on
Coddle Creek. Lake Concord and Lake Fisher are experiencing
eukrophication problefas from urban encroachment on the~
watersheds. Urban encroachment and the resulting runoff have
forced tbm City of Concord to abandon Lake Concord as a primary
source of raw water.

]Ile proposed Coddle Creel< Reservoir would encompass a
~quare mile watershed and includ~ q major jurisdictions. ~he~e
governi~ng bodies are F{owan County, CabarFus County, Iredell

~ncroachm~nt and the re~ulting eutrophication problems in
their ~ater supply sources~ DEM fe~l~ that steps should be takem
to control the potential impact nonpoint source pollution (urban
development) may have on ~.~ater quali~y in the ne~ reservoir.

RO, B,>× 176~7, P~llcb:h, Nor*h Cai'olivia ~7611,7d87 'l~lcpho,c 919.733-7015
