REPORT TO CABARRUS COUNTY C~MMISSIONERS OBJECTIV~ To report the findings of a committee to study the need for ambulance stations in outlying areas of Cabarrus County, as requested by Chairman James W. Lentz on December 21, 1987. CO~IITTEE Commissioner Moss Ben Mabrey, Cabarrus County Emergency Services Tom Earnhardt, Mt. Pleasant Family Physicians Bill Stirewalt, Mt. Pleasant Lion's Club Allen Burnette, Midland VFD Bill Milligan, Harrisburg Rescue Squad Jerry Almond, Harrisburg Rescue Squad Bruce Lofty, Cabarrus Rescue Mike Bailey, Cabarrus County EMS Martha Melvin, Chairman SERIES OF EVENTS The Committee met at the office of Emergency Services on January 19, 1988, with the following in attendance - Moss, Mabrey, Earnhardt, Stirewalt, Burnette, Milligan, Almond, Melvin. A second meeting was held at the Office of Emergency Services on February 2, 1988, with the following in attendance - Moss, Mabrey, Earnhardt, Stirewalt, Burnette, Milligan, Lofty, Bailey, Melvin. FINDINGS 1. The Ambulance sub-station presently located at Hwy 49-601 will be moved due to future bridge construction. 2. Service to the Mt.' Pleasant area will require excessive response time. The Mt. Pleasant Lions Club has offered a plan for assistance to obtain area service. 3. Service to the Midland area presently requires excessive response time. The Cabarrus Rescue houses a vehicle at the Midland VFD for emergency use to tbe southern area of the county to be used for rescue - not ambulance service. The Midland VFD services the fire district with their rescue vehicle. Response time to the Midland area will be longer after the re-location of the sub-station at Hwy 49-601. 4. The Harrisburg Rescue Squad presently serves a considerable area. Due to lack of advanced life support certification for volunteer personnel, they are required to have assistance, from the present sub-station services. In other words, both are called at the same time.
