· 1987 Annual Report page 4:

Utilities which is extremely impOrtant for the attraction of new
.induatr~es was another one of our active areas where we supported the
water bond effort in May which was approved by the voters and the sewer
bond effort in December which from an economic development point of view
was not a positive when it was defeated but we are working to continue
our efforts with the county officials and developers in a 75/25% participation
payback plan. we must continue growth in the future and for this to be
accomplished we must have utilities available in all industrial growth
areas.

We go into 1~88 still feeling very positive about Cabarrus County.

In January two announcements have been made with building permits being
issued in excess' of one half million dollars for two businesses to come
to the Cloverleaf Shopping area. ThisgrOwth is created when we have new
manufacturing jobs as we ,know that with every manufacturing job created
1% t° 1% service area jobs are created. We must seek future industrial
growth properly planned and continue the activities of the Cabarrus County
Economic Development Corporation so as to, secure for not only ourselves,
but for future generations a well balanced county that has beth industrial
and residential growth while making sure we are not becoming a bedroom
community for adjoining counties.

Branson Jones
Executive Vice President
