1987 A~nual Report page 3: <br />to meet their annual production goal of 60 billion cigarettes, the growth <br />of Concord Farmsin employment and also the. construction and opening of the <br />worlds largest duck hatchery. The announcement by Metal Industries of <br />Clearwater, Florida as to moving their window and door manufacturing facility <br />to Cabarrus County and the announcement by Americhem, Inc. of Cuyahoga Falls, <br />Ohio of locating a manufacturing facility for plastic dye color concentrates <br />in Cabarrus County. Additionally there have been a large number of race <br />related businesses come to the county along with growth in a number of <br />industries already located within the county. The most noted of these would <br />be Hendrick Racing in Harrisburg and N. C. Plastics in Harrisburg. <br /> <br /> In addition to industry recruiting and support of existing industry the <br />corporation also participated in other activities within the county throughout <br />the year. In the educational area support for Rowan-Cabarrus Co~unity College <br />was very active as the director served on the Cabarrus County site selection <br />committee and also was very active during the Cabarrus-Rowan Co,unity College <br />Bond referendum which passed in the December election. In transportation we <br />worked with all areas to present to D O T a unified roads requests for our <br />county to be included in the state T I P (Transportation Improvement Program). <br />We attended meetings with representatives from Raleigh and divisional areas <br />encouraging additional 1-85 interchanges at Earnhardt Road and the Kings Grant <br />site. We were active in the support of the general aviation facility site <br />selection and also in the environmental hearings on this site for approval <br />by the FFA. We worked with Norfolk and Southern Railroad in their process <br />of identifying and working up suitable rail siding sites for Cabarrus County. <br />Also we made contact with the landscaping division of D O T and have their <br />interest in a joint landscaping effort which has been turned over to the two <br />county's Chambers of Commerces at the gateway of Cabarrus County which is <br />1-85 at U S 29 and U S 601. <br /> <br /> 7 <br /> <br /> <br />
