Stanford
County Extension Director
Cabarr~s Co~ Agricultural
Extension Service

Dear Al:

The Cabarrus County 4-I! Excbange Committee met on Tuesday night,
February 23, in the Extension Learning Center. The purpose of !ha
meeting was to discuss plans for the upcoming Kentucky 4-H Exchange
Trip which will be conducted the first week in July 1988.

You will remember that it was this group that aaked for permission
to hold a barbecue and yard sale at tile Extension Office in 1987 which
precipitated the involvement of the County Manager and County Attorney
before the group was finally told they would be unable to bold tbese
4-H events at the County Agricultural Center.

Members of the Exchange Committee were also present when you met
with tile 4-H leadership on February 10 concerning their plans for the
future of the Cabarrus 4-H Program. They again raised the question as
to mhy we were not allowed to bold 4~! events in tbe County Agricultural
Center which houses tbe 4-1t Office.

This committee is again looking in to fundraising opportunities
which will enable our young people to earn the money necessary for their
participation in the 1988 4-1t Exchange Program. The group voted to fly
to Kentucky, and I feel that it is important to give the young people
every opportunity to earn the money necessary to enable them to partici-
pate in such a worthwhile 4-H learning experience. ~e committee asked
me to contact you concerning the status of fundraising events being held
in tile County Agricttltltral Center. Specifically, the group is looking
in to the feasibility of a yard sale, a car wash, or a barbecue dinner
and feel that the County Agricultural Center would be an excellent
central location to conduct these activities.

Coopcratlve ExtenMon Work in .4g~culture and ltome Economics A& T and N.C.
