Charles gcGSnnts

In closing, we, the present members, see the following
problems, which if addressed successfully, would greatly ease some
of the difficulties which Cabarrus women face in raising their
families:

(1) We urge the Board of Commissioners to work closely with
Rowan Technical College and the North Carolina state representatives
to expediate the development of a Cabarrus site with buildings
and programs developed by Rowan Technical College. The expansion
of quality training opportunities would greatly increase women's
economic options.

(g) We urge the Board of Commissioners to continue and, if
possible, commit to increased financial support of the Cabarrus
Victims kasistance Network shelter and domestic violence prograph
wi)ose demands grow as the population expands. Since state funds
have been drastically reduced for this fiscal year the need is
espe:ially crucial.

(3) We urge-attention to creative solutions between both
public and private sectors in attacking the sever lack of quality
day care facilities available for county families. This problem
affects not only single parents; stable two-parent families also
require services that presently 'are-unmet.

(4) ~e urge increased attention by both publi~ and:private'
agencies in addressing the ~ncidence of teen*age pregnancy. This
problem condemns two or more generations to poverty, lack of educa-
tion, economic and social development for the young, mothers, fathers
and their babies. Opportunities for schooling and training for
employment provide a positive alternative to public assistance.

! believe ! speak for all past members of the Council in
expressing thanks and appreciation for your cooperation as County
~anager an~ for the support of the ~oard of Commissioners. It was
our wish to communicate the needs of Cabarrus women to you and we
have perhaps succeeded in some small way in interpreting the response
of county government to those needs.

~owever, as we look forward to the twenty~first century, it
appears that reassessment and re-structuring is in order to
facilitate the most effective functioning of the Council. ~t is
our wish that this spirit of cooperation and support will continue
to ensure that Cabarrus women receive quality programs and services
to provide for their needs.

Sincerely yours,

· .,~ Ardith P.
