The objective was to have each member of every participating <br />family read at least one book during the month of November. To <br />enter, one family member had to fill in a contest entry form <br />verifying that everyone had read a book. Upon enrolling, each <br />family was given a November Reading Suggestion Calendar, complete <br />with tally sheet for each member's reading conquests, and a plastic <br />book bag. Drawings were held December 8, and the following won <br />prizes: <br /> <br /> First Prize: Steve Young and.Family <br /> (A hooked rug, The World'Treasury of <br /> Children's Literature, and Images~ <br /> North Carolina's Outer Banks.) <br /> <br /> Second Prize: Paul Collins and Family <br /> (A canvas book tote and Imaqes: North <br /> Carolina's Outer Banks.) <br /> <br /> Third Prize: Mary Sellers and Family, Belen Scott and <br /> Family, Betty Fisher and Family, Dianne Wallace and <br /> Family, and Angie Pressley and Family <br /> ($10.00 Gift Certificate from the Village Book End <br /> and Images: North Carolina's Outer Banks) <br /> <br />Participation in'the program was very good and we plan to repeat <br />the program next Nouember. Sponsorship of Family Reading Month <br />was by The Cabarrus-Rannapolis Friends of the Library, the Village <br />Book End, and The Daily Independent. <br /> <br /> CHRISTMAS TREE <br /> <br />The Christmas tree and lights used by the Library this year were <br />given by the Cabarrus-Kannapolis Friends of the Library. The tree <br />was decorated by third grade ~tudents of Judy Smith at Shady Brook <br />School. The decorations were all hand made by the students. <br /> <br /> <br />
