Pilkington
SUBJECT: Provision of Prenatal Care to Indigent of Cabarrus County

In order to continue to provide a high quality level of prenatal
care to the indigent population of Cabarrus County it is necessary
to adequately compensate the physicians who deliver these babies.
Currently, these physicians are compensated approximately $3!5.00
for a normal delivery through state/federal grant monies. This
compensation amounts to about one-half of their normal delivery
charge. In order to ensure that these delivery services continue,
the county needs to provide the monies to pay the difference
between what the state/federal grant funds provide and the normal
charge (approximately $650.00).

Cabarrus Memorial Hospital has agreed to transfer $20,833 to the
health department to pay for this service for the last three
months of FY 1986-87. This $20,833 comes from the $250,000 that
the county appropriates to the hospital. The hospital has also
agreed that $70,000 of the FY 1987-88 appropriation designated for
Cabarrus Hemorial can be allocated to the health department for
dellvery funds.

ft

Attachment
