CANNON MEMORIAL LIBRARy <br /> <br /> KANNAPOLIS BRANCH <br /> <br /> 1050 Mountain Street <br /> Kannapolis, NC 28081 704-938.9121 <br /> <br />HE~h~'rr~ JULY AND AUGUST 1987 <br /> <br /> WINTER HOURS <br /> <br />School is back in Session and the library is back to winter hours. <br /> <br /> Monday-Thursday 9:00-8:00 <br /> Friday, Saturday 9:00-5:00 <br /> <br />Winter hours begin the week after school starts and end the week after school <br />closes for the summer. <br /> <br /> SUMMER READING PROGRAM <br /> <br />The Summer Reading Program, Go To Books, ended on August 15 with an ice cream <br />celebration and a carnival. Over 100 children enjoyed visits from a clown <br />and Yogi Bear, carnival games with a Bookbot theme, and an ice cream party. <br />The g~,~es were designed by the Children's Room staff and built by Peggy Broome <br />and included Bubble Blowing, Bookbot Puzzle, Frisbee Flips Spin-A-Number, Go <br />Fish, Feed the Elephant, Ring Toss, Marble Roll, Bookbot Roll, Bookbot Bean <br />Toss and Bookbot Bowling. Members of the Anchor Club from A. L. Brown High <br />School ran the game booths and Margaret Stevens dipped ice cream. This year <br />we had a total of 256 children participating in the Summer Reading Program. <br /> <br /> YOU~G ADULT SUMMER READING PROGRAM <br /> <br />In an effort to encourage young adults to continue participation in library <br />programs after they have become too old to participate in the children's <br />sunlmer reading program, the library sponsored a reading program for those <br />entering the sixth grade or older. Called "Pizza Trivia", a game format was <br />used in which participants promised to read at least eight books. Twenty- <br />six young aduits enrolled in the program and enjoyed such activities as a <br />Library Scavenger Hunt, movies, and making thsir own tee shirts. The program <br />ended on August 14 with a pizza and movie party at the library. <br /> <br /> SIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES <br /> <br />Two sign language classes for adults will be held at the library this fall: <br />Wednesdays from 10:00-11:30 beginning September 9 and Thursdays from 6:00- <br />7:30 beginning September 10. Taught by Children's Room Assistant Jennifer <br />Smith, the classes will run for ten weeks. Each class is limited to 15 <br />participants. <br /> <br /> <br />
