CHILDPuEN'S.S~I)R¥ TIMES <br /> <br />Fall children's programs will include the following: <br /> <br /> Tales for Twos: A parent/child story program for two-year 01ds, <br /> offered on Tuesdays at 2:00 pm. Registration begins October 20 <br /> for the programs on November 3, 10, 17, and 24. <br /> Storytime: A story program for preschool children ages 3 to 5, <br /> offered twice this fall on Tuesdays at 4:00 pm beginning September <br /> 15 and~on Thursdays at 10:O0 am beginning on September lT. Each <br /> program russ for six weeks. Registration for these programs <br /> begins September 1. <br /> <br />Plans are underway for special Halloween programs for children in grades K-3 <br />and 4-6 and for progrmms for the Christmas holidays, as well as a Christmas <br />Ornament Contest in early December. <br /> <br /> LAUBACH WORKSHOP <br /> <br />The third Lauhach tutor workshop~ sponsored by the Cabarrus Literacy Council, <br />was held at the library on August ~2 and 29. Twenty people attended the worskhop, <br />bringing the total number of certified tutors in Cabarrus County to 58. These <br />tutors are currently working with 3~ local students. <br /> <br /> GENEALOGY CLASS <br /> <br />The Cabnrrus-Kannapolis Friends of the Library are sponsoring a genealogy <br />class at the library this fall. The class will be taught by Patrieia Bosenthal, <br />a professional genealogical researcher and former librarian of the Edith M. <br />Clark History Room at Rowan Public Library in Salisbury. The class~ limited <br />to twelve participants, will meet each Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 for six <br />weeks beginning on October 6 and ending November. lO. <br /> <br /> F;ddILY READING MONTH <br /> <br />Plans are underway for the Second Annual Family Reading Month in November. <br />This program, sponsored by the Cabarrus-Kannapolis Friends of the Library, <br />encourages all members of the family to read.. Ail participants will receive <br />a calendar full of reading suggestions which includes spaces for keeping track <br />of who read what. Drawings for prizes for those families who complete this <br />program will be held in early December. <br /> <br /> NEW LIBRARY FURNISHINGS <br /> <br />Several needed and welcomed new additions of furniture have been donated to <br />the library. Wayne Price (husband of Circulation Assistant Barbara Price) <br />built a desk organizer for the counter in the workroomt and the Cabarrus- <br />Kannapolis Friends of the Library have given a microwave cart and wall <br />cabinets in the staff lounge. The cabinets .were built by E, J. Willie. <br /> <br /> <br />
